Garage door repairs in Ringwood
Ringwood mixes post-war houses with units, townhouses and new apartments around Eastland and the station. This page covers who fixes a shared door and what published call-outs cost. A referral to an independent technician who works in Ringwood 3134 is being set up; bookings are not open yet.
Useful to note for later: your nearest cross street (for example off Maroondah Highway or Warrandyte Road) and whether the garage is shared with other units.
Ringwood's homes and garages
Ringwood grew around the railway and Maroondah Highway. 450 houses were built between 1946 and 1950 alone, Eastland was begun in 1966, and EastLink opened in 2008. At the 2021 Census, 76.0% of Ringwood's occupied homes were separate houses, but a third (34.4%) had only two bedrooms, compared with 19.1% across Victoria: a sign of the many units and smaller homes here. That mix is set to grow. The State Government's Ringwood Activity Centre Plan provides for more apartments close to Ringwood Station and lower-rise apartments and townhouses within about ten minutes' walk.
So a Ringwood job could be about a roller door on a post-war house, a single door in a block of units, or a panel door on a new townhouse. Knowing which one saves time.
Units and townhouses: whose door is it?
If your home is part of a subdivision with an owners corporation, check the plan of subdivision before you book anyone:
- Door inside your own lot: usually your responsibility, so you can book the repair yourself.
- Door or gate on common property (for example a shared entry gate or car park door): the owners corporation must repair and maintain it. Consumer Affairs Victoria says a lot owner must not repair common property unless the owners corporation has authorised them.
- Renting? Report the fault to your rental provider or agent first.
What usually goes wrong
| Problem | Signs | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Roller door won't open fully or jams | Sticks partway, grinds, sits unevenly | Don't force it with the opener; it may need re-tensioning or re-tracking |
| Broken spring or cable | Bang from the garage; door very heavy or crooked | Stop using it, keep clear and book a technician |
| Remote not working | Wall button works, remote doesn't | Try a new battery; recoding is usually a quick job |
| Opener hums but door won't move | Motor sound, no movement | Check the manual release hasn't been pulled; if not, have the opener checked |
| Door reverses on its own | Starts closing, then goes back up | Clear anything near the safety sensors and clean the lenses; if it continues, get it checked |
What a repair costs
For reference, one garage door company publishes a call-out fee of A$249 for Ringwood, including GST and the technician's labour, with parts and further repairs quoted on top (aggdoors.com.au, checked 27 October 2026). That is another business's price, not ours. A technician's written quote is what applies.
Licences
- New or moved power points for an opener need a licensed electrician (Energy Safe Victoria), who issues a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
- Jobs worth more than A$10,000 in total, labour and materials, are domestic building work that needs a registered builder.
Old opener or door parts in Maroondah
- Hard waste: Maroondah households with a residential bin service can book two free collections a financial year (2 cubic metres each, or one double collection). Electrical appliances and metal items are accepted. Book before you put anything on the nature strip, and only put it out the weekend before.
- E-waste events: Council runs free e-waste drop-off days for residents in May and October at its Operations Centre, 24–28 Lincoln Road, Croydon. Registration is required.
- Small items only: the recycling station at Realm, 179 Maroondah Highway, takes small e-waste such as phones, chargers and cables for free. For anything bigger, such as an old opener, use hard waste or an e-waste day.
Check maroondah.vic.gov.au for the current rules. Many technicians also take old parts away as part of the job.

Common questions
I live in a unit with a shared driveway. Who fixes my garage door?
It depends on your plan of subdivision. A door inside your own lot is usually yours to fix; a door on common property is the owners corporation's job. If you're renting, report it to your rental provider or agent.
I'm renting. Can I call a technician myself?
Tell your rental provider or agent first. Check your lease and Consumer Affairs Victoria's guidance on urgent repairs before arranging work yourself.
My remote stopped working but the wall button works. Is it the opener?
Usually not. Try a new battery in the remote first. If that doesn't help, the remote may need recoding, which is normally a quick job for a technician.
